He studied at the Medical School of the University of Ioannina and then specialized at the First University Clinic of the National University of Athens, at the "Evangelismos" Hospital, where he received the title of Neurosurgery specialist in 2011.
From May 2011 to March 2015, he worked as a Senior Consultant (Oberarzt) at the Neurosurgery Clinic of the Bethel Neuroscience Center, in Bielefeld, Germany, one of the largest neurosurgical centers in Germany with over 2500 brain and spine surgeries per year.
From April 2015 to March 2017, he worked as a Senior Consultant (Oberarzt) at the Neurosurgery Clinic of Schlosspark Hospital, a state-of-the-art tertiary hospital in Berlin, Germany. In April 2017, he assumed the position of Deputy Director at the same hospital. He was a permanent member of the neuro-oncology board of the respective hospitals where he worked, while in October 2020, he assumed the position of scientific director of the neuro-oncology board of the Park-Kliniken Berlin hospital group.
He holds the "Specialized Neurosurgical Oncology" diploma from the German Neurosurgical Academy and the Master's degree from the German Spine Society.
In 2021, he was elected Assistant Professor of the University of Athens and assumed his clinical duties at the 2nd Neurosurgery and Neurotrauma Clinic of the University of Athens at the "Attiko" General Hospital (Director: Professor E.I. Boviatsis). In January 2026, he was elected Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Athens, with clinical activity at the "Attiko" General Hospital.
Areas of clinical interest are neuro-oncology, skull base surgery, hydrocephalus and minimally invasive spine surgery.
Dr. Stavrinou is an instructor at three international skull base surgery seminars (Athens, Cologne, Erlangen). He has dozens of scientific publications and is a constant presence at international neurosurgical conferences.
